Fleas are a year round nuisance for our pets and a major cause of skin problems. There are many different products available for flea control but the most important thing to remember is to use safe, effective, residual products that will take care of the environmental flea problem as well as that on your pet. Due to our climate flea control should be used consistently, all year round for the best protection.
We recommend Comfortis, Frontline or Advantage. Our nurses are happy to discuss the best option for your pet.
Paralysis ticks are a natural parasite of our native wildlife and cause them no harm. When they attach themselves to our dogs and cats though, they secrete a toxin which causes hindlimb paralysis, breathing difficulties, collapse and then death.
Daily checking of your pets’ entire body surface is the best prevention. There are anti-tick products available but they should not be relied upon solely.
Intestinal worms; roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and tapeworm can affect dogs and cats of all ages. They can cause diarrhoea, vomiting, poor condition and in some cases death particularly in puppies and kittens. Some of these worms can also cause disease in humans, particularly children, so good hygiene and regular worming of all pets is essential.
To control intestinal worms ensure you use Drontal
